“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming.”
-Pablo Neruda
Love is the desire to give largely and completely.
A Garden
If I could give as a gift
A garden full of bluebells
Kissed by monarchs
And loved by the rain
Wrapped up in pretty
Paper box with a
White silk bow,
I would place this box
In your lap, but I,
Being small, have only
This single daisy that
I would lay
At your feet.

in“Sometimes, only one person is missing, and the whole world seems depopulated.”
-Alphonse de Lamartine
As long as I can remember there have only been select few people in my life whose absence I’ve truly felt. I wrote this piece for someone who I knew would come back to me, who I wouldn’t have allowed to stay, but hated the thought of being without in a way that is new and painful and sweet. This is my prayer, my offering, my wish for that person.
The Pond
I would send you off
On a bed of Baby’s Breath,
And brush your temples
With petals of peonies,
Cover you with powdered,
Paper wings and a thousand
Tiny mouths full of kisses
To keep stoked the burning glow
That we kept between our
Knuckles, to carry you safely,
To carry my wishes on those
Little lips and leave them in
Your ears, under your fingernails,
On the ends of your lashes while
You sleep in strange rooms that
Smell like wood and soap, to
Carry you back over frothing
Greens and cold, misting rains
If I could, darling,
If I could.
