“The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others.”
If any of you follow me on Facebook or twitter ( http://facebook.com/shannonkellyarts and http://twitter.com/skellyarts ) Then you’ve probably seen me posting about one of my latest projects that I’m very proud of called, COUTURE FIGHTS CANCER.
This is a fundraising event that my modeling agency, Couture Modeling Inc., and I have put together to benefit a young woman, Dayna Christison.
Dayna and I went to high school together. She’s smart, beautiful, and every memory I have of her in HS is of her smiling. Not long ago, after becoming ill and undergoing a number of tests, Dayna was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She returned home, began treatment, and eventually went into remission. She was preparing to pack up her life and return to New York City to continue building her career in the fashion world, when she and her family received some devastating news: the cancer had returned.
This second round of treatment has been even more brutal than the first time. Thanks to generous donations made by members of the community, Dayna was able to have a procedure that would preserve her ability to be a mother one day, which this latest treatment would have prevented. Unfortunately, the disease recently spread to the tissue of Dayna’s lung, and she is undergoing experimental stem cell transplants to treat the cancer here.
On May 17th from 6-10pm, we’re hosting our fundraiser, COUTURE FIGHTS CANCER, to help raise funds for Dayn’a cancer treatment, WHICH IS NOT FULLY COVERED BY HER HEALTH INSURANCE. NYC Fashion Designers are joining us to auction off their beautiful, Spring gowns that will be worn by Couture Models. The event is being catered by Eddie’s Roadhouse and Peck’s Wine and Spirits in Warwick. The event will be held in the beautiful Neighborhood Center at Warwick Grove. It’ll be a night of fashion and fun, and I hope you’ll join us!
