Sometimes I think about giving this little piece away. And then other times, never.


I keep the last little piece

Behind glass, under a plastic

Lid that smells vaguely of

Jam, buried behind piles of

Sheets, and old coats,

Next to scribbled-in books,

My poor man’s piggy bank

With its purple, plastic lid

And ridged, round bottom,

My rainy day hero,

My last bit of bait for the hook,

My little seedling,

My nest egg,

I’ll never let them find you

Little dear, even if the rest

Should rot.
